For Moda, a place to live should be light and modern. A place to relax that is intimate, and a place with flexibility to entertain, no matter which direction you turn. Yet, a place also inspired by its surroundings — in this case, the dynamic appeal of Armadale’s arts precinct. For each of the interiors at 835 High Street, Carr explores the way in which residents will inhabit and move around the space. Each interior zone is then stripped back to its raw form and function. Layered textures and natural materials are introduced, guided by local and artistic influences on minimalism, led by Carr’s signature calm and confident approach. From the monolithic island benches in the penthouses to the large-scale joinery forms, this building balances design excellence with fine aesthetics to create a special place to come home to. Here, everything has its place, but is completely out of the ordinary.
Designed to complement any season, living spaces are where the hard materiality of the exterior gives in to a calm, soft approach. Wall-to-wall glass invites natural light wherever possible, while built-in joinery displays books or art. In some apartments, a full-height, dual-sided fireplace divides the living and dining areas, further separating each room function and accentuating the size of each.
Each bathroom is bold in form and embellished with the warmth of the kitchens, continuing the concrete finishes and fine detailing to bring subtlety to the spaces. The vanity is hero, with a glacier white Corian feature piece that appears to float on the floor, complemented by detailed joinery, deep storage and clear glass finishing. Above it, a storage block adds inherent practicality, while the textured walls provide a deeply sensuous feel. In some instances, aspects over greenery enhance the textured effect for a bathroom experience unlike any other.
